Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Bangladesh Awami League, along with its affiliated wings, including the Bangladesh Chhatra League and the Bangladesh Jubo League, organised flash marches at 39 locations across the capital city of Dhaka on Sunday. The demonstrations took place in areas such as Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Lalmatia, Asadgate, Gulistan, Paltan and adjacent areas, near the national mosque Baitul Mukarram, Matsya Bhaban, Motijheel, Kakrail, Segunbagicha, Airport, and Uttara, among others.
Despite a controversial ban on all activities of the Bangladesh Awami League, imposed by the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, the party proceeded with the marches. The prohibition, which persists despite a High Court writ, has been widely debated. In an act of defiance, Awami League supporters held these flash marches across multiple locations in the capital.
In a significant development, Awami League activists briefly reoccupied the party’s historic office in Dhaka after 268 days, which had previously been seized by an Islamist mob and members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Police intervened, dispersing the crowd. This series of marches marks the largest political demonstration by the Awami League since the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 5 August 2024.

As of the latest reports, 11 Awami League activists have been apprehended in connection with the marches. This is an ongoing story, and further details are expected to emerge.
