Tarique Rahman Alleges Conspiracy to Destabilize Bangladesh

Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has accused unnamed conspirators of exploiting public grievances to orchestrate unrest in the country.

In a press release issued Wednesday evening (November 27, 2024) by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Rahman claimed that recent developments across Dhaka and other regions suggest a calculated effort to undermine national stability.

Rahman described the situation as increasingly alarming, citing signs of rising public intolerance and coordinated actions aimed at disrupting the state’s equilibrium. He urged the interim government to exercise firm leadership to restore order, warning that failure to do so could lead to heightened public dissatisfaction and unrest.

Warning of Economic Vulnerability

Rahman highlighted the escalating cost of living as a critical flashpoint, cautioning that unchecked inflation and inaccessible essential goods could be weaponized by those seeking to destabilize the government.

“The economic hardship faced by the masses is fertile ground for conspirators. Immediate measures must be taken to control the market and provide relief to the people,” he stated.

He also alleged that remnants of the previous regime, which he described as allies of a “fugitive autocrat,” are waiting for an opportunity to exploit the current vulnerabilities to their advantage.

Call for Vigilance and Restraint

In his address, Rahman urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing the need to resist provocations designed to sow discord.

“It is imperative that the people exercise patience and remain alert. Chaos serves only those who wish to weaken the nation,” he remarked.

The BNP leader reiterated his party’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and safeguarding the interests of the populace, even as he issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of inaction by the interim administration.

This statement from Rahman comes amid heightened tensions and uncertainty in Bangladesh, adding another dimension to the country’s complex political landscape.
